Promoter History

Action SportsAction Sports Promotions Inc was established in 1979 by Drew Wolfe to promote amateur motocross racing events.  After attending the Florida Winter AMA Motocross Series in 1978, and competing and working for the event promoter in 1979 Drew realized that the quality of those events greatly exceeded anything the local tracks had to offer. The goal for Drew and his brother Kyle, who became a partner in event promotions, was to promote the best racing events for the riders at the local level. During the next eight years they gained experience in race event operations and track construction working for national motocross and Supercross promoters around the country. They went from hay bale movers and banner hangers to track builders of the AMA Supercross Series, traveling to every major stadium across the United States.

Action Sports created a variety of original events including the world’s first Indoor Jet Ski race, the Team Harescramble Championship of the World; and the only AMA National Motorcycle Hillclimb ever conducted at night. Action Sports also held the very first motorcycle freestyle-jumping contest, which took place during intermission at the Columbus Arenacross event in 1987.  The first Action Sports Arenacross took place in Columbus, Ohio in 1984 and became the largest arenacross event in the country with 1200 riders and 15,000 spectators. Over the next fifteen years the arenacross series grew to a fifteen round series in Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky. The series was very successful and was purchased in 1999 by Clear Channel Entertainment.  Action Sports sold a major portion of its local racing events in April of 2004 to dedicate their time and focus primarily on the Subway Extreme Sports Expo.

Action Sports Promotions is currently owned an operated by Drew and Carolyn Wolfe. Along with their two sons they participate in motocross and other off road dirt bike racing, ATV riding, road and mountain biking, water skiing, wakeboarding, snowboarding and snow skiing.  They are extreme sports enthusiasts and excited about the future of the Subway Extreme Sports Expo.
